Driving Question:
How can we use our knowledge and passion to communicate our wants and needs?
Project Overview:
The first project of the year in World Studies (English and Social Studies), the students are introduced to the project based learning cycle in a unique and exciting way - producing a podcast with their team. Students learn about the fall of the Roman Empire and the rise of the Byzantine Empire in Social Studies while exploring persuasive writing in English. Teams collaborate to develop their own podcast which is “broadcast” from KBYZ Radio in Constantinople to an audience of Romans . As they explore audio production and editing, students discover Roman legacies and more while strengthening their communication skills using rhetoric and reasoning. Why should you move to Constantinople?
Student Quote:
“Something I liked about this project is that everyone got to learn how to record audio. I enjoyed this because I thought it was fun learning how to edit audio, add sound effects and of course do the actual recording. I also enjoyed all of the little assignments leading up to the podcast such as the personal persuasive podcast and the why Rome fell poster. Finally, I loved writing the script for the podcast. I really liked working together with my teammates to make it funny and interesting.”
“I think this project went well. I definitely learned a lot about both the Empires. I liked having something different to do and try it.”
