Driving Question:

How can game-based learning help us understand complex concepts?

You and your World Studies team will create a playable tabletop game inspired by the history of medieval trade and the Silk Road.

How long or complicated must the games be?

Your game must teach people something complex and interesting about Medieval history- for example, trade on the Medieval Silk Road! If the game is short enough to be played in only 5 minutes, it is not likely that people will be immersed or educated by the game. However, your team should be able to play most of the game within one class period.

Student Quotes

"First up, is the freedom given to us during the project, this aloud for creativity to blossom and for really advanced board games to be created. Another thing I liked about this project was how much we learned about the Silk Road, figures in trade, and aspects in trade. I think this is the most I've learned throughout all of the history class this year or even in general."

"I like that this project felt like a real work experience. We went through the phases of how I think something would be created by someone who works a job like this, which would be the brainstorming, planning, prototype, and creation followed by reflection. While doing this process, we had fun and learned a lot."
